Whitman is a done deal, Apotheker is out ?

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

According to several sources close to the situation, former eBay CEO Meg Whitman is being considered by Hewlett-Packard directors as a possible candidate for CEO, in a move that would replace its current leader Léo Apotheker.

Wall Street seems to like the Apotheker ouster idea, with HP shares spiking almost eight percent on our news, as well as a simultaneous Bloomberg report. The rise has added almost $3 billion to HP's market valuation.

The appointment of Whitman — who is longtime and experienced Silicon Valley exec, who joined the board of Hewlett-Packard in January — to the top job at HP is by no means a done deal, sources said.

But a significant contingent on the board is keen to remove Apotheker after a what some directors consider is a series of management mishaps.
